THE CLEAN RIVERS PROJECT
For more than 150 years, the river continued to be an important centre for trade. However, the river became increasingly choked with filth. In 1977, the Clean River Project was carried out involving many different government agencies to clean up six rivers, including the Singapore River and the Kallang Basin. 10 years and $200 million later, the project was successfully completed and many festivities were carried out to celebrate the achievement.
JOYOUS RIVER by DR ElSIE YU is a sculpture that commemorates the success of the project. ( year 1989 )
